Fire in Exeter destroys Richer Sounds electrical shop

A devastating fire in Exeter destroyed Richer Sounds electrical shop and severely damaged flats above. Fire services investigations identified the cause as electrical fault

The fire  started in the basement of the electrical shop at 2pm on Wednesday, July 27 and  left the flats above and to the side of the shop severely damaged.

A spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire Service said: “Because there were safety concerns about the structure of the building, a detailed examination wasn’t possible.

“The most likely cause of the fire is an electrical fault, but the appliance that caused it is unknown as the damage to the building was too severe.”

It took three weeks for the shop to re-open during which time it’s business premises were, of course, unavailable, preventing the business from trading normally.
